Banksia Receives Multiple Design Awards
MAB Corporation’s Banksia at NewQuay Docklands has been awarded not one, not two, but three design awards!
In a ceremony held on the 17th May, at the Sydney Opera House, the Good Design Awards announced Banksia as their 2018 winner in the Architectural Design – Commercial and Residential category. Now in their 60th year (and formerly known as the Australian Design Awards), the Good Design Awards celebrate the best in Australian design across architecture, digital, engineering and fashion.
At The Melbourne Design Awards, Banksia received Gold in both the Architectural – Residential – Constructed and the Interior Design – Residential categories. Winners are chosen both by a formal judging panel and the public has the opportunity to vote for their favorites.
Additionally, the Victorian Institute of Architects announced the shortlist for their awards on 24th May. Banksia is now in the running for the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing award which will be announced on 29th June. Winners will then progress onto the National Architecture Awards later in the year.
This is an outstanding achievement for MAB and Banksia’s architects, McBride Charles Ryan (MCR). MAB and MCR’s previous project, ‘The Quays’, took out a total of 11 design awards in 2014.
Inspired by the Australian native flower, Banksia is the pinnacle of Australian architectural design.
